About the course

Social psychology concerns social thinking, influence, group processes and processes between people.

  • Social thinking: Beliefs and evaluations of self and others, of social situations, identity and attitudes.
  • Social influence: Conformity and obedience, persuasion and culture.
  • Group processes: Influence, social identity, intergroup relations, conflicts and prejudices.
  • Social relations: Aggression, helping and attraction

Learning outcome

Knowledge (upon completion of the course, the student):

  • can reproduce and understand specialist terms and subject perspectives.
  • know central social psychological phenomena, processes and theories.
  • can evaluate different research methods and research results within social psychology.

Skills (upon completion of the course the student can):

  • Use theories within social psychology in order to understand and explain social phenomena and practical examples from reality.
  • Write an independent academic report utilizing terms, empirical data and theory from the required readings in order to shed light on a problem statement.
  • Collect, process and present data, and relate to relevant theory.
  • Evaluate and give feedback on each other’s term papers.

General competence:

  • The student have the basic knowledge about central traditions within social psychology and can discuss strengths and weaknesses as well as critical perspectives.
  • The student can communicate central subject matter in a written assignment.
