Practice in Applied Ecology

  • Application period 1 May for the fall semester (August-December) 15 October for the spring semester (January-June)

About the course

The course is an internship program, where you can work on the current research projects running at the Faculty of Applied Ecology and Agricultural Sciences, and gain experience with different methods in research in applied ecology. Each student should stay minimum 3 months. At the end of the stay, the students write a final report, describing what they have learnt during the internship.

Practical information

The course is offered throughout the whole year but seats available will depend on the number of ongoing research projects and their need for data collection and analysis. Some Research Projects has special requirements for their Fieldworkers like driver license or skiing abilities. There are usually more seats available during spring and summer time.

• has knowledge about current issues in field and laboratory methods within ecology and wildlife research

• has knowledge on the most common methods of obtaining and collect data in the field

• has capacity to plan data collection in the field, analyse samples in the lab and apply basic statistical methods; • has the capacity to analytically and critically interpret scientific results

General competence

The candidate

• has capacity to reflect on current issues in ecology and wildlife management and to critically discuss research projects

Admission requirements

To enter the study module it is required that the student can confirm to have fulfilled at least one year at a university or university college in the world within the fields of wildlife biology, biology, ecology, evolution, forestry, agriculture, environmental sciences or likewise, or have achieved the bachelor degree in such sciences

What is next?

 ”Practice in applied ecology” is useful for students that are planning a master degree in ecology or related subjects. This study program can also be combined with " Nordic Forest and Wildlife Management" or " Ecology and Conservation".
