As a key partner of UNESCO’s Global Action Program on Education for sustainable development, CCL participated in the “Looking into the Future of ESD, together” meeting.
The current framework of the Global Action Programme (GAP) on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) will end in 2019 and a decision on the post-GAP period will soon be made. The UNESCO Secretariat has launched a global consultation process to reflect on the post-GAP period and on the future direction of ESD. Special focus was given to how ESD is integral to the achievement of Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The importance of values and how to link issues of sustainable lifestyles and consumption to ESD were also discussed, as was the necessity of integrating ESD into early childhood education.
GAP Key Partners meeting was organized by UNESCO and took place at the University of Peace in San Jose, Costa Rica from 25 to 27 April in the beautiful surroundings of a natural reserve. Field trips were made to local Earth Charter schools and civil society organizations who concentrated on practical, active learning approaches to education for sustainable development.
