Several PERL partners joined teacher trainers from countries around the world at the The International Global Action Programme on ESD Conference and the 9th Biennial Meeting of the International Network of Teacher Education Institutions which was held the 21 – 24 August 2016 at Campus Gotland, Uppsala University, Sweden.
The conference highlighted initiatives focusing on education for sustainable development within teacher training and higher education. The 2016 Global Monitoring Report for Education published by UNESCO was presented. Finland’s programs for curriculum development and teacher training were also described. In addition to key-note speeches and panels, a wide variety of papers and posters filled the program.
PERL’s learning materials and research publications were extremely popular and copies were shared with over 60 of the participants. Pledges concerning future steps to strengthen ESD in their home institutions were made by the conference attendees. PERL promised to complete the publication Learning to Do, a compilation of practices about education for responsible living, which describes the three main transformative learning methodologies developed by PERL partners.
