This is an area of research where Inland Norway University (HINN) for several years has contributed to the development of knowledge both nationally and internationally. The research in this field is connected to our doctoral programmes, but stands and is presented as its own area of research.
Disability studies at HINN have a multi-disciplinary breadth and approach. The central themes have been tied to disabled people’s right to participate and right of co-determination in their own lives and in different societal arenas. User-involvement, inclusion, and empowerment are important keywords.
Researchers from HINN were central in the establishment and leadership of The Norwegian Network on Disability Research (NoNDR) in 2004. HINN arranged the first national conference in 2004, and again in 2014.
