Reforming Education and the Imperative of Constant Change

The European Conference on Educational Research (ECER) took place in Copenhagen 22-25 August 2017 and reflected on the role of educational research in reforming education and the imperative of constant change. Several PERL/UNITWIN partners made presentations including a member of the Center for Collaborative Learning for Sustainable Development.

The conference discussed whether current attempts to standardise education systems, programmes and curricula actually contribute to uniformity, or do national and local translations of the new education standards disrupt attempts to standardise? ECER 2017 addressed the impact of transnational reform pressure by focusing on the ways in which reforms are affected by the roads they travel when they move across borders throughout Europe and beyond.

EERA membership is made up of more than 30 national and regional Educational Research Associations from all parts of Europe.  The academic work is organised in thematic networks. EERA is a learned society specifically for the purposes of:

  • encouraging collaboration amongst educational researchers in Europe
  • promoting communication between educational researchers and international governmental organisations such as the EU, Council of Europe, OECD and UNESCO
  • improving communication amongst educational research associations and institutes within Europe
  • disseminating the findings of educational research and highlighting their contribution to policy and practice
