New Center crowns 20 years of work about education for responsible living

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences has been a driving force in a number of significant international programs and research projects about responsible, sustainable living. To further this work, a Center for Collaborative Learning for Sustainable Development is being launched on the 21st of September in Hamar from 10 a.m.-15 p.m. at LUNA. The launch is a part of the national Research Days. Consisting of a seminar and panel debate, the launch is open to the public. Read more. 

The center The Center has its base in Hamar (at LUNA) and has as its primary focus to further the work of PERL (The Partnership for Education and Research about Responsible Living) and fulfill HUAS’s obligations related to its UNESCO Chair for Education for Sustainable Lifestyles. These obligations include, among others,  PERL’s role as "Key Partner" in the UN's Global Action Program for Education for Sustainable Development and that of coordinator of the educational part of the global 10-year Framework of Programs for Sustainable Lifestyles.

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) has, since 1996, played a leading role in education for responsible, sustainable consumption, both nationally and internationally. HUAS has worked closely with the Ministry of Children-, Equality, and Inclusion (BLD) and the Ministry of Education with the organization and development of, among other things, CCN (The Consumer Citizenship Network) and PERL (The Partnership for Education and Research about Responsible Living). These efforts have supported the national consumer policy goal of having informed and aware consumers. Since 2000 HUAS has also led the national advisory group for consumer education in schools initiated by BLD. Additionally, HUAS has played an active part in the implementation of the UN Decade for Education for Sustainable Development and the International Marrakech Process for Sustainable Consumption and Production. This has led to active participation in The Global Action Plan for Education for Sustainable Development and the 10-Year Framework of Programs for Sustainable Lifestyles and Education, in partnership with UNEP and UNESCO. 

Over the years, PERL has built up a substantial international network. It has established cooperation with 140 universities, colleges and international organizations in 50 countries. Cooperation with the majority of these organizations has lasted more than 15 years and continues. Together the PERL/UNITWIN partners have carried out relevant research, developed curricula, created new learning methodologies and teaching materials, held capacity building seminars and conferences, and participated in the public discourse on sustainable development and life quality.
