Library courses for PhD candidates

The Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) Library offers several courses for PhD-students at HUAS:

Microsoft Word

This course covers for instance advanced functions in Word, and we give advice on how to handle large documents, styles and table of contents.

EndNote is a program for managing references. There are two versions of this course: one version for beginners and one for more experienced users.

Literature search

In this course you will learn how to search for literature in Oria (the library's search engine) and in a selection of databases. You will also learn how to keep updated on new literature within your subject by using so-called alerts. We also show you how to search for literature in Google Scholar, and we also discuss the use of Wikipedia.

This course focuses on important aspects of publishing. We go through Cristin and how to register research production, the Norwegian publication system (tellekantsystemet), scientific publication channel levels, Open Access-publication, citations and ranking, Impact Factor, social media, peer review and PhD on Track.

Critical and ethical use of information

This course introduces you to the critical use of sources and to research ethics. The course is set up to make room for discussion about the subjects addressed, including Open Access publishing, use of Wikipedia, relevant Norwegian legislation and scientific misconduct.

If you wish to take one or several of these courses or want to have more information, please contact University librarian Ellen Nierenberg.
