Learning outcomes

Once the student has passed the course, he/she will have achieved the following learning outcomes:


The student

  • has broad and advanced knowledge of animated graphics  
  • has the knowledge to develop and carry out design projects by combining relevant digital tools, techniques, methods and forms of expression in relation to concept art 
  • has a broad knowledge of concept art for use in games, animation, advertising, as illustration and information design  
  • has a broad knowledge to develop and carry out design projects by combining relevant digital tools, techniques, methods and forms of expression in relation to concept art  
  • has a broad knowledge of formal aesthetic effects in relation to the development of digital pictorial expression and design  
  • has broad knowledge of idea and concept development  
  • has broad knowledge of theory, methods and the production pipeline associated with concept art, motion design and setup in a game engine 
  • has broad knowledge of cinematic stories and digital storytelling
  • has broad knowledge of structuring his/her portfolio 
  • Has knowledge of visualization and presentation through a game engine 


The student

  • is able to present and disseminate design intentions at a professional level  
  • is able to use different design and drawing techniques at a high level, to translate and interpret experiences visually, emotionally and aesthetically  
  • is able to express himself/herself visually at a professional level, as a common basis for communication, in dialogue with others  
  • is able to make a demo reel to show his/her level of knowledge in conceptual art development and motion design
  • is able to present objects, situations and characters in a unique, recognizable, memorable and appealing way 
  • is able to make informed, aesthetic choices and clearly communicate creative design processes   
  • is able to exploit principles of pictorial art and animation   
  • is able to produce concept art and motion design of high quality 
  • Is able to present visual artwork, 2D and 3D, still and animated, through a game engine 

General competence

The student

  • has an understanding of relevant issues of professional ethics, and is able to contribute to a professional community  
  • is able to plan and carry out a major work over an extended period of time, in accordance with guidelines

Teaching and working methods

The course is organized as a combination of lectures, regular submissions, laboratory exercises, self-study and supervision.

Coursework requirements

  • 1-3 individual assignments 
  • attendance at lectures in accordance with the teaching plan
  • attendance at laboratory teaching in accordance with the teaching plan

Passed coursework requirements are only valid for 12 months. Students who apply for retake of exams/folder assignments after 12 months will have to pass the coursework requirements again next time the course is taught.


  • 1 individual folder assignment prepared for screening at the degree show, which count 100% of the final grade

Alphabetical grades are used, on a scale from A to F, with E as the lowest passing grade.
