Learning outcomes

A candidate with fulfilled qualifications will have the following learning outcome:

Knowledge

The candidate

  • has general knowledge of the value chains in Nordic forestry.
  • knows the most common Nordic forest engineering practices.
  • has gained a deeper knowledge of the products and the specifications needed from the market.

Skills

The candidate

  • is able to identify the different steps in the value chain of forest products.
  • He is able to find and calculate the main income and costs in common forest management operations.

General competence

The candidate

  • has a broad knowledge on forest engineering not only for Nordic environments, but also in a more international perspective

Course content

  • Value chains in Nordic forestry.
  • Production with regeneration methods, scarification, thinning.
  • Production with harvesting, forwarding and transportation.
  • Forest terrain classification, area planning, road construction, forestry machinery, ergonomics, logistics, economy, mechanic forestry.
  • Bioenergy value Chain.

Teaching and working methods

Lectures, excursions, report, seminars

Examination

  • Alternative assessment including a semester paper, a presentation and seminars (45% of final grade)
  • Written exam (55% of final grade). Grading according to ECTS-system on scale A-E for passed and F for failed.
